This is my first and only attempt to make a stand-up paddle board back in 2011. It came out really well, but I don't think stand-up paddle boarding is for me. I originally designed it to be a board for catching waves in the surf. The video below is the maiden, while it was fun to try it, after a few times out with it, it was kinda boring. I tried taking it out into surf and it catches waves no problem, it's neat that you can see swells since you are up high, the problem however is it is always windy on the east coast, and I found out that wind and SUPing do not mix. So for lakes and just paddling around it's great but in the ocean it's a whole other story, I think I will stick to regular surfing.
The board is made from EPS (styrofoam) I think the density is 2lbs per sq foot, I have blocks of it custom cut at a local place that manufactures foam for construction, so it was easy for me to get a block of foam that was large enough for a SUP but didn't cost me anything for shipping. It has a Fins Unlimited center finbox and Future Fins for the sides, I think the dimensions are 9' long, 3.5" thick, don't remember the rocker, except it was kicked up in nose for wave catching and to cut through the chop. The paint scheme was painted directly on the foam and then glassed, I don't remember the glassing schedule but I think it was double 8oz on top and single 8oz on bottom, so very strong.
