Mini 250 H-Quadcopter Prototype
250 sized quadcopters are are all the rage now, so I had to give one a try. This is my prototype H-Quad, it has carbon fiber/Lexan frame and is very basic but it lets me test out the motor and ESC's. I have a 250 size quadcopter frame on order but it didn't arrive the same time as the motors and ESCs.
It's held together with a few bolts, double sided tape and zip ties. After a few flights I am very impressed with the performance with these cheap motors and ESCs from Banggood.com. The ESCs are supposedly pre-flashed with simonk. Check out the video for an overview and flight at the end of the video. Total cost for the 5 motors and ESCs was $95 including shipping! I always buy an extra motor and ESC, good to have spares. Specs as flown:
So far loving this little quadcopter!! Stay tuned to for more, review of the motors and ESCs. ZMR 1804-2400KV Motors from Banggood.com
I needed away to mount the motors since they only come with screws and no mounting hardware, so I traced out some Lexan motor mounts, drilled some holes and mounted them with zip ties.
Traced out motor mounts.
EMAX Simon Series ESC, pre-flashed with simonk firmware
Soldering the ESCs directly to the motors, I have some 2mm bullet connectors on order but they didn't arrive in time.
Piece of Lexan held on with 3m double sided tape. The frame is made from 10mm carbon fiber square tube from Hobby King.
Some Lexan pieces used to tie the carob fiber frame together, #6 bolts
Some cable management
ESCs mounted and soldered to the motors
Using a KK2 flight controller until a lighter one arrives
Power distribution hooked up to a JST connector, might need to go with a thicker gauge of wire depending on the amp draw
Finished with the receiver mounted, props and wiring
Side view
Added a piece of Lexan on the bottom so the battery can be mounted with velcro and a strap
Quick and dirty landing gear from Lexan
Done!
